The Eulogy

The Eulogy is the opportunity to tell and to share the meaningful, personal and relevant story of the life that it is celebrated.

The family meeting will form the basis for the preparation of the Eulogy.

The aspiration is to be able to share in a reading lasting 10 or so minutes memories that those present will recognise in the person they knew and who they will remember.

Each life is different, and the following is a guide on the types of things that can bring out the personal story.

Family

Father

If married, name of spouse(s), how they met and wedding date(s)

Children/grandchildren

Any other significant relationships, friendships

Any family members to be mentioned during the ceremony

Are there any notes, diaries, journals or writing by or about the individual?

Growing up, education

Childhood memories

Activities, hobbies, etc

Other thoughts

Philosophy of life?

Anything that should specifically not be read, said or sung?

Anything in life for which he/she was particularly grateful?

How would he/she like to be remembered?

Should mention be made of the manner of death?
